I am a 53 yr old male and have had heartburn as far back as I can remember. In the mid 1980's I was diagnosed with ulcers, and given acid-blocking drugs. I do smoke and drink and have paid for it since the time of the diagnostic test. In the mid- 90s I began getting severe acid reflux for a number of years. I began taking the OTC H2 blockers with they came out which in turn seemed to control the reflux problem and heartburn. About ten (10) months ago out of nowhere my current problem begain. I was eating cornbeef when I begain to feel like I was choking as I stood up and was coughing all that was coming up was a clear water like fluid not acid tasting more like large amounts of saliva. The discomfort lasted for a couple of hours with some food coming up but , mostly saliva. Before I go any further no I have not seen a Dr. Since that time I have had problems eating the food feels like it is not going all the down and I will force vomit for relief. I have lost about 35lbs since March 04. The problem has not seemed to have worsened or become better since it began. I still get the fluid problem but not in the large amounts as in the 1st few months. I have read the various esophageal diagnostics and and with the exception of blood in my vomit or stool I fall into all of them. I do get Hoarseness at times and cough I can smoke and drink with the best and have a touch of asthma in my right lung.
